Cameron Winter's pre-Geese EP
No one's talking about Men of the Reef
I’ve burned myself out on Geese, or maybe you all did it for me. If I had the band’s ear, I’d advise hiding in the basement, speaking to no one, and turning everything down for the next six months. Overexposure’s a cunning bitch, and the world will eat every bit of meat from their bones.
But my friend Chris Parham, The Weekly Soundtrack sleuth, sent me a secret sidecar for fans who want more. These songs would’ve been recorded when Cameron Winter was 16 or 17. His voice probably hadn’t fully changed.
Men of the Reef’s three singles, co-written by Cameron and the artist Oliver Seda, play it more straight than Geese or Winter’s solo LP. I don’t know what teenagers in New York City were listening to in 2019, but Thom Yorke’s influence is on display, and my ears detect a little Walkmen DNA.

yeah i already like this more than Geese. This, and his solo LP, are so much better than Geese. Of course, it makes sense to me that the sleeper success of Heavy Metal is what set up Geese to have their moment in the sun....
