I Remember: a collaborative memoir, live in real-time at EAUX CLAIRES festival

Many years ago, I wrote a piece called Most of My Memories, Age 5-11 (Abridged). I thought I’d done something quite original, but a few years later, I found Joe Brainard’s book I Remember. Then, at a festival in Urbana last year, the poet Azlan Smith gave a reading made up of his own memories, and I was forced to admit that I did not, in fact, invent a new literary form. That said, Azlan fully created something fresh when he invited the audience to contribute their own memories. The vibe was sick, and I told him I was stealing the idea.
